Yesterday was a powerful reminder of what true collaboration looks like. The Black Political Empowerment Project (B-PEP), the League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh, Just Harvest, and the Alliance for Police Accountability (APA). Each of these groups brings unique strengths to the fight for civic participation, and together, we share a common goal: ensuring that every resident of Allegheny County and Pennsylvania has the knowledge, access, and motivation to vote.
Why 2025 Matters
Pennsylvania’s 2025 elections may not be a presidential year, but they are just as important. Across the Commonwealth, voters will make decisions about judges, local officials, and county-level leaders whose policies directly shape our daily lives. Judges, for example, interpret laws that determine criminal justice outcomes, voting rights, and civil liberties. County council members decide how resources are allocated for housing, public safety, and youth programming. These are the races that hit closest to home, and they are often decided by the smallest margins.

The Tools of Democracy: Early Registration and Vote by Mail
One of our biggest priorities is making sure people register to vote early. Deadlines sneak up quickly, and too often, eligible voters are left out simply because they missed the cutoff. In Pennsylvania, residents can now register online in just minutes, but awareness is key.
We’re also educating communities about vote-by-mail a secure and convenient way to cast a ballot that ensures every voice is counted, even if work schedules, childcare, or unexpected life events make it hard to get to the polls on Election Day. Participation should not depend on privilege or flexibility; it should be accessible to all.

The Collective Power of Every Election
Every election is a chance to shape the policies that impact our communities. Skipping “off-year” elections means giving up that power. If we want safer neighborhoods, stronger schools, fairer courts, and economic justice, we must show up every time. The truth is simple: your voice counts, and your vote counts.

Our Call to Action

We cannot afford to treat any election as unimportant. As B-PEP has reminded our community for decades: It’s a lifetime commitment. We must vote in each and every election. Together, let’s commit to building a culture where participation is the norm and civic power belongs to the people.
🗳️ Register early. Vote by mail if you need to. And most importantly, show up. Change happens when we all participate.
